 Thursday 25th Feb,

    Hot on the heels of Pentax letting us know that we wont get the K-7 Limited special edition camera, Pentax have announced 2 new cameras.

  The first is the Optio X90, this is the follow on camera from the X7- ultra zoom, offering a slight stretch in optical zoom (24x - 26x), improved EVF now with dioptre adjustment, the 720p video has been improved now to 30fps, improved battery life. Also the X90 is now compatible with Eye-Fi wireless LAN SD cards.

the second new camera is the Optio W90, this is the next evolution in Pentax's waterproof lineup. Featuring an improved 5x wide angle zoom lens, improved movie mode, improved waterproofing (now 6m) for 2 hours continuous use.

 the most interesting feature is the new digital microscope.. this uses the 1cm macro mode and digital zoom to magnify tiny objects... Pentax have added 3 LED's around the lens to aid with lighting the subject to deliver high quality images.

 Pricing and availability have not been confirmed as yet...

Pentax are at it again..... Pentax have decided to release a limited edition of the K-7... The K-7 Limited is finished in Silver to exactly match the FA limited series lenses. 

 The body will have the latest version of the K-7 firmware (v1.03) and an exclusive Focusing screen.

 Production will be limited to 1000 worldwide...

 We hope to see them here in NZ, pricing and availabilty... Not yet

  Pentax have launched a new Teaser website... The much anticipated, often dreamt about, constanltly pondered 645D medium Format camera will be officially launched between the 10th & 13th of March... Specs'... HAHAHAHA yeah right, the only thing actually known is the fact its the 645D.... check it out here (but you will need to read japanese)


 

  Tuesday Feb 8th.... Today it's Canon's turn to unleash new cameras on the world .  Headlining the list is the EOS 550D, this beast takes the EOS 500D,  some of the excellent features from the EOS 7D, and gives us an awesome SLR in a more attractive price.

  The EOS 550D has an 18mp Sensor, new 63 zone metering system from the EOS 7D, DiG!C IV processor, and major improvements to EOS Movie mode, with full 1080p recording at 30, 25 or 24fps, 720p recording at 60/50fps, FULL MANUAL control, an optional external microphone, and improved 3" LCD screen and lots more.. Pricing & ETA have been confirmed!

  Feb 3.... Olympus are at it again with another batch of new compact cameras...  There are additions to the SP Ultra zoom range, and a couple of new mju toughs.

  The new Ultra Zooms are the SP-800UZ & SP-600UZ..

The SP800 has 14 megapixels & the SP-600 has 12 megapixels  with CCD shift stabilization, HD movie recording, SD Cards and internal memory, the big differences are the zoom lens & internal memory, The SP-800 has 2GB internal memory and 30x OPTICAL ZOOM.... yup 30x optical with a 28mm wide angle.. Where the SP-600 has 15x Optical zoom and 1GB internal memory.

 The new Tough 8000 gives the tough mju a 14 megapixel sensor, 5x wide angle zoom lens, HD movie, SD card slot, and improves the sealing with all ports, card slots, battery chamber under one double locked door.

Feb 3 News Episode II..... Fujifilm have joined new camera day with a whole bunch of new cameras with the headline act being the new Finepix HS10.. The HS10 uses a new 10mp CMOS sensor, a Fujinon 30x lens, full 1080p HD movies and upto 10fps in full still resolution!

 

 also announced were the XP10 rugged camera, F80 EXR, Z700EXR, S2500HD, and a whole gaggle of J series cameras

 Olympus have announced 9 new compact cameras, all feature a decent chunk of internal memory, with several of the new mju models having 1 or 2 GB internal memory, but that isnt the biggest news..... all the new Olympus models use SD/SDHC memory cards! Thats right SD memory cards in the Olympus compact range... check back as we update the olympus pages with the new models!

 January 12th.... Pentax Fans rejoice... the popular K-7 & Kx D-SLR's and all of the Pentax Compact cameras have had a price REDUCTION!!!!!

 The K-7 has been dropped by $150 to $2449 body only!

  The K-x single lens kit has been reduced to $1299 and the twin lens 50-200 kit is now $1449!

Canon have announced several new compact digitals in the always popular budget orientated A series.

 The first cameras are the A490 & A495, these 2 will replace the A480 at the base of the Canon compact range.

 Both cameras share a 10mp sensor, with a 3.3x optical zoom, with the A495 offering more auto program modes and more advanced Facial Recognition.

 Both of these new cameras are also compatible with the upcomming SDXC memory cards with storage capacities upto 2 TerraBytes and PRICED AT $199!!!

 Canon also announced the A3000 & A3100 models, these 2 cameras share an image Stabilized 4x optical zoom lens, and DiG!C III processor with smart auto, but the A3000 has a 10 megapixel sensor & the A3100 has a 12 megapixel sensor. 

  The A3000 & A3100 are both compatible with the upcomming SDXC memory cards, and in a first for the A series compacts, the A3000 & A3100 use a rechargable Lithium battery pack in place of the AA type batteries found in the A Series. WE HAVE THE A3100 INSTOCK @ $349

Canon have announced an update to the incredibly popular

70-200mm f2.8 L IS USM lens..

  The new EF 70-200mm f2.8 L IS II USM lens is 20g heavier than the old model, but has an extra UD lens element, redesigned switches, a bigger Manual Focus ring,  new ring type USM motors with a new AF aglorithm and CPU  deliver faster, more accurate Auto Focus that will match the capabilities of the just released EOS 1D mk IV and EOS 7D.

 To answer the questions i know your already thinking about... No there is no pricing yet, and availability..... Late April... so more like May/June ETA.. but get in the queue now to get one.. it will be popular!
