Canon have revived the well regarded Powershot S series of premium compact cameras with the announcement of the Powershot S90.
The S90 takes all the good things that the previous S series cameras had... Small body, fast wide angle zoom lens, manual control & RAW mode, and bring it kicking and screaming into 2009.
The heart of the S90 is a new 10mp CCD that due to its larger size and smaller pixel count offer higher sensitivity. Behind this new sensor is a new DiG!C 4 processor designed to handle this new sensor and deliver the high quality noise free images Canon is known for.
The new 28-105mm equivalent lens is Image Stabilised, but features a fast aperture range of f2.0 at wide angle to f4.9 at telephoto, again helping the camera in low light.
Another new feature is the customisable control ring around the lens. this can be set up to control various creative functions including aperture, exposure compensation or the zoom lens.
